Task 7

I created my Wikipedia account with the name "Librarian4kids". I used that name to give more credence to any edits I may decide to make to Wikipedia in the future. I edited the PVLD page by adding information and links to our storytimes.

In my experience kids use Wikipedia a lot so I take every opportunity I can to show/explain to them that they must be "critical thinkers" when using this resource. Most of them don't know that the pages can be edited by anyone with an account -- which could be them! I personally haven't used Wikipedia for this reason. I figure there is probably an accurate source for the information I need elsewhere.

Task 6

I have used AIM at home a little but not for a long time so when I took on this task I just went ahead and created a new screen name "loumewzz". I had some trouble actually getting the chat part to work, it turns out that just signing in isn't enough, you actually have to launch the program! I couldn't find where to do that from the AIM Today page that I had signed in on, so I went back to the PVLD learning page and clicked on the link there. Then I added PVLD2007 to my buddy list and here is the exchange:

loumewzz (11:23:17 AM): Hi! I'm trying to send you a message!
pvld2007 (11:23:18 AM): PVLD2007 is no longer signed on.

not too exciting, but I did it. I like the buddy list because you can tell immediately if anyone you've im'd in the past is on at the moment (right now none of my current buddies are on). I noticed that the minute you IM someone, they appear in your buddy list, so you don't really need to do a seperate action to "add" them -- convenient! You can also add them using the "actions" button at the bottom of the buddy list window. Doing this gives you the option of adding them to a specific list such as "coworkers" or "family". So now I'm ready to chat with you all!!!

Task 4

This task went quickly. I am pretty familiar with taking digital photos, uploading them, etc. Here is a shot of one of my favorite places (not my favorite ride!) at night during the holidays. I go to Disneyland as often as I can!

Check out the other photo I uploaded to the right. I took a screen shot of one of my World of Warcraft avatars. I've never taken a screen shot before. I used the "print screen" button on my keyboard. Then I had to search my system to find the file. Once I found it, I had to figure out how to open it (I used my photo editing program). I opened it, cropped it, and added it as a page element to my blog page. I really wanted it to show up in my profile section in lieu of a photo of me, but apparently that wasn't an option. Anyway, even though this task initially wasn't anything new for me, my desire to include a picture of my WoW avatar gained me new knowledge!

Task 3!

This is the task I was looking forward to and it didn't disappoint! I found some great feeds by searching on the internet and I also used the search engine within Bloglines to find some others. I also used their feature to click on my interests from a list and found some that way. I wanted to find a way to share my feeds so I clicked on the "share" button. At first, I didn't understand what I needed to do, so I just experimented. I didn't realize that I need to take a couple of extra steps in order to make my feeds public, which I did, and now you can see them on the lower right. I plan on finding more by exploring the Bloglines site more deeply, but I've got a good start.

Has anyone else noticed that blogspot is slow sometimes?

So now I want to figure out how to get the "unshelved" strip to my blog . . .

I'm In!

So I've begun the PVLD Learning 2.0 process! I will be formatting my blog page to make it more personal. I think this will be fun and I look forward to discovering and learning about things that, up until now, I've only heard about. So, that's it for now as I go off to accomplish more tasks.
